Points Scoring Weekend For Morgan At Oulton Park

Alex Morgan looked to continue his impressive start to the 2014 Renault UK Clio Cup Championship at Oulton Park, the fourth race weekend of the season. The Bridgend-born driver has scored three podiums including two race wins, and after starting the weekend 3rd in the Championship, was looking to fight his way back to the top of the leader board.   In a torrentially wet qualifying session, Alex was involved in a dramatic battle for a good grid slot for the weekend’s two races. Reading-based Morgan, set the fifth fastest time in the session which determined his race 1 starting position. With his second fastest lap time being similar, he secured himself a fifth place start for race 2 as well.   In Saturday’s race, Morgan kept his place on the start, however after an early safety car period he moved up to fourth. Following a long battle with championship rival Mike Bushell, Morgan lost the place on the run into the first corner but saw off advances from Paul Rivett to maintain fifth place.   In Sunday’s race Morgan made up a place into the first corner but a few laps later, following an aggressive move by Paul Rivett, Morgan was hit off line and lost two places. For the remainder of the race, Morgan fought hard to keep hold of his place against Mike Bushell again and crossed the line in sixth place.   Speaking about his weekend, Alex Morgan said:
I was expecting a lot when arriving at Oulton as I went well here last year and I had a new chassis. Unfortunately it turned out to be a lot tougher than expected and I was on the back foot with a lack of pace in the dry weather. I am happy to have secured two points finishes however and I will be working hard to get back to the front of the grid at the next race weekend at Croft.
The next round of the series takes place in three weeks on 28-29 June at Croft in North Yorkshire. Morgan heads to Croft fourth in the standings.
