Morgan Makes It Onto Kx Akademy Programme For 2014
Sun, 12 January 2014
After a scintillating return to racing in 2013 where he took podiums, a win on his maiden weekend and second in the driver’s championship, Alex has been offered a place on the prestigious KX Akademy for the 2014 season. The Akademy is a mentoring and scholarship program designed to teach, mentor, guide and assist up-and-coming, talented drivers in the UK and to assist them in reaching their ultimate goal of becoming a professional racing driver.
Being in the Akademy not only means that he will be sponsored by Tesco owned KX Energy drink, but he will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from and work with none other than multiple BTCC Champion Jason Plato. The five driver’s that have made it on to the Akademy will be involved in media and promotional events both at the circuit and away from it, as well undertaking physical tests and training on all the key skills required to be a complete driver.
With the backing of KX Energy, Alex is set to line up with SV Racing team for the 2014 Clio Cup Championship and after coming within a handful of points of securing the Clio Cup crown in 2013, he is determined to land the big prize this season. Speaking about having Morgan in his team, Team Principal Danny Buxton said:
SVR are delighted that Alex will be joining the team for the 2014 Renault UK Clio Championship. As a front running team we have no doubt that Alex will be running at the very front of the field in this competitive national motorsport support championship to the BTCC. With a new car for the 2014 championship, Alex’s raw speed combined with his impressive technical ability, will be invaluable and can only help SVR in winning the Entrants TrophyMorgan is excited to be racing again in the UK Clio Cup Championship in 2014 and hopes it will continue his progression to becoming a BTCC driver:
Racing against other KX drivers during the 2013 Clio Cup season made me realise the fantastic opportunities available to drivers on the programme, and being so closely mentored by a champion like Jason Plato is going to fast track my career and help me reach my goal of being a successful touring car driver. With so many well-known drivers applying to be on the programme, I feel really privileged to have made it through to land a place on the scheme. It is going to be a good year on and off the track and the first race meeting cannot come soon enough. It will be a new challenge because there is a turbocharged car this season and I will be working with a new team, but I feel that KX and SV Racing have the right ingredients to make it work. For more information on Alex's progress in 2014, like Alex's Facebook page and follow him on Twitter
